Then the people hoist the National Flag over their houses. The Flag is hoisted over all the important buildings such as the city courts, the police stations, district headquarters, the banks, the offices, the railway stations and other official buildings.
All the offices and institutions• and almost all the commercial centers, mills and factories .are also closed to enable the people to have full-bloomed enjoyment of the day. The speeches are delivered and the poems are recited. The topic is how we achieved Pakistan and how can we make it strong by working hard and following the footsteps of our Quaid-e-Azam. In their Speeches the speakers throw light on the various aspects of Quaid-e-Azam's life. At the end of such meetings march past is held by the ‘Razakars’ sweets are distributed to the children and alms are given to the poor, the orphans and the widows.
In big cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta and Karachi the march Past is held by the 'Jawans' of the armed forces after which they display their performance in the military' craft. The people standing impatiently on both sides of the streets greet them with shouts and slogans. Thus the people express their profound sense of joy and excitement.
In small town the procession is taken by the students of schools. The streets, the houses, the shops and the public building are profusely decorated. Arches, decorated with flowers, are set up in the thorough fares. At night the buildings are illuminated. This display of lights is very enjoyable, how rapturous is it to witness variegated lights, the fluorescent tubes, the flickering lights and the bulbs of various sizes, colors and shades! It appears as if one had come in a fairyland.
The radio Pakistan and TV chalk out its special program to celebrate this day. Their special features begin with the messages from the President and the Governors of respective provinces; then there are children's programs, various broadcasts on the life of Quaid-e-Azam, the struggle of the Muslims for their independence, the progress of Pakistan and the role of Pakistan in the modern world. The program is full of variety because all the radio stations have their own program.
The Republic Day is the most important occasion for every patriotic Pakistani because it reminds him of his ideology and demands him to work so as to achieve it.
